Is It Age or Ethnicity That is Important?

“M:Metrics, the mobile market authority, reports that with 70.9 percent of English-speaking Hispanics consuming mobile content in the United States, they are among the most active, engaged mobile content consumers. The measurement firm finds that the percentage of English-speaking Hispanics who consume media and information far surpasses the market average of 47.9 percent.

Youthfulness is a key characteristic of this demographic. Overall the Hispanic cell phone users skew much younger than the average user, particularly among the coveted 18-34 age group which comprises more than 51.5 percent of the total Hispanic mobile population. In comparison, the 18-34 age group only accounts for 31 percent of the entire U.S. mobile population. ”

75% of Americans use the same phone for both work and personal use

workingwoman.jpgI am sure it will come as no surprise that more and more Americans blur the lines between work time and personal time. I for one fall into this categorize and never quite seem to leave my office behind. I am that person answering emails at 11pm and taking business calls at dinner. But what can I say? I love to work and I am not the only one. According to new data from Yahoo! HotJobs, 75 percent of respondents say that they use their wireless device equally for both work and personal purposes. In fact, only 8 percent report that they are completely offline when away from the office.

More findings:

  • 27 percent admit to being so attached to their wireless device, they only leave it alone when they’re sleeping.
  • 26 percent of respondents feel that wireless devices keep them on a permanent corporate leash
  • 23 percent say that they are easily distracted by work-related emails and calls during personal time
  • 33 percent find it more difficult to get their point across through electronic communication than a live conversation.

Brits Cherish Love Texts by Keeping Them on Their Handsets

mobilelovesms.jpgOnce in a while I get a text message that just makes me smile. If you go through my phone right now, you will probably find a few saved on there. It seems I am not the only one hanging on to every word… A recent study by T-Mobile in the UK reveals that 40% of Brits cherish mobile love messages by keeping them on their handsets. Other findings include:

  • Under 24s are the most sentimental - 49% keep more than 20 romantic texts on their phone, while only 16% of people over 45 years keep that many.
  • Women (40%) and under 24s (62%) find it easiest to communicate feelings via text rather than face-to-face.
  • One in five men (19%) find poetry the most romantic form of communication.
  • People dating less than six months also send the most flirty texts (82%) and romantic emails (61%). After five years together this drops dramatically to 58% for texts and 45% for emails.

Pew reveals how Americans use their phones

While mobile phones in the US have not hit penetration levels of other countries like India, Germany, or Japan, the mobile phone still remains and interracial part of American society. According to a Pew Internet & American Life Project (pdf) study:

– 74% of the Americans who own mobile phones say they have used their hand-held device in an emergency and gained valuable help

– 24% of cell-using adults report they often feel like they have to answer their cell phones even when it interrupts a meeting or a meal.

– Some 41% of cell phone owners say they fill in free time when they are traveling or waiting for someone by making phone calls.

– Among cell phone users, men (32%) are more likely than women (25%) to admit they sometimes don’t drive as safely as they should.

– 82% of all Americans and 86% of cell users report being irritated at least occasionally by loud and annoying cell users who conduct their calls in public places.

– 8% admit they themselves have drawn criticism or irritated stares from others when they are using their cell phones in public.

– 36% of cell owners say they have been shocked from time to time at the size of their monthly bills (this was me last month!).
