Last week I had the opportunity to speak with Ajit Jaokar of Futuretext regarding the workforce issues that are effecting the wireless telecom space. For those of you that do not know I have, as of late, been doing some work for a boutique executive recruitment firm called Precision Research Group that is building a Telecom desk.
The opportunity has given me a new perspective on the industry at large, especially in the area of what kind of people a company needs to be looking for in the mobile space.
What started off as a friendly conversation turned into an interview on this issue.
The workforce needed for mobile telecom is rarely discussed and I hope to start blogging about it more here for as Ajit very poignantly pointed out “telecoms will need new blood to enhance the existing genepool and will need to attract people who currently are not in ‘telecoms’ but are needed there. These people will have cross functional experience especially in light of the new world which we are increasingly finding ourselves in Telecoms and mobility.”
One thing that I have noticed as companies have called up looking to fill positions is that often times they have an idea of what they are looking for but often do not know exactly what that is. Its like going into a paint shop and saying I want blue without knowing which shade of blue you want.
This is something I tried to work out in talking with Ajit and will possibly try to work out more in the future
