WHEREISHERE: SIGN TRANSLATION MOBILE SERVICE AND SOCIAL NETWORK
August 18th, 2006 by Justin Oberman

Whereishere This is a fun Idea. WhereIsHere.net, when it is finished, will allow you to take a picture of a sign or written material with a camera phone, upload it to the site (with the specifications of what language you wanted translated to) and let the WhereIsHere community take a crack. I would hope that when it is a completed the translated message would then be delivered to your phone by SMS or WapPush. Its a a sort of social networking version of the technology that Neven Vision, the company recently acquired by Google, demonstrated last January.

Provided this has a large enough community it could really take off.
