What if a pulse sent out through cell phones turned every person using one of them into a zombie-like killing machine? That’s what happens on page six of Stephen King’s latest, a glib, technophobic but compelling look at the end of civilization—or at what may turn into a new, extreme, telepathically enforced fascism.
To help market the book SK’s marketing team will be harnessing the medium of the books title, Cell: A Novel. They plan to send text messages on his behalf — to 100,000 cellphone users and will allow users the ability to download a ringtone of Stephen Kings voice.
At least they are not distributing the pulse that turns people into zombie like killing machines. But I guess you can set the SK ringtone so that you know its them when calling.
The text-ad that thousands of cellphone subscribers will receive reads: “The next call you take may be your last….Join the Stephen King VIP Club at www.cellthebook.com.”
Creepy, just creepy.
I stick to my CTU ringtone from “‘24″
